<p>The National Statistics Office came into being in March 1947. Official statistics, however, had been compiled and published for many years. In 1872, an official publication called The Malta Blue Book featured a statistical view of Malta and its Dependencies from 1863 to 1872, covering the relevant time series for population, education, finance, and trade among others. One of the first volumes of The Blue Book of the Colony of Malta was published in 1851 and included a statistical abstract on population emanating from the 1842 Census.<br><br>Fast forward to today, the National Statistics Office (NSO) is the executive arm of the Malta Statistics Authority. It is responsible for the collection, compilation, analysis and publication of a wide range of statistical information and related matters.</p>

&lt;li&gt;Competitive Starting Salary: This position carries a starting annual salary of €34,353 for 2026 which goes up to €36,555 in 2027, as well as a Performance Bonus of up to 10% yearly, a Class Allowance of €1000 yearly (increasing to €1750 in 2027), a possible Qualification Allowance for those eligible plus an automatic Statistical career progression path. Renumeration excludes any overtime pay, which is reimbursed separately as need arises.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We’re seeking prospective candidates with a degree (MQF level 6 or higher) in Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research, Economics, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Engineering or Information Technology with fluency in English or any another official European language. &lt;em&gt;Coding skills in Python and R are considered an asset&lt;/em&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Candidates who have not yet formally obtained the qualifications specified above will still be considered, provided that if successful, the candidates are offered the job once the full MQF Level 6 qualification (&lt;em&gt;180 ECTS&lt;/em&gt;) is achieved and provided to the employer.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Prospective applicants should note the requirement to produce MQRIC recognition statements in respect of their qualifications from MQRIC, or other designated authorities, as per provisions applicable to this call for applications should this be required.&lt;/p&gt;
