About This Job

Job Title: Associate General Counsel

Reports To: CEO

Job Purpose:

The Associate General Counsel is responsible for managing Pinnacle Sports' legal affairs across commercial, regulatory, corporate, and governance matters. This role reports directly to the CEO and offers a unique opportunity to develop into a trusted advisor and future leader within the organisation.

We are deliberately hiring someone with room to grow, but it is not a role for someone seeking extensive direction or hand-holding. We will invest heavily in helping the right person understand the business and develop their commercial judgment. In return, we are looking for someone who is resourceful, self-sufficient, and capable of independently turning problems into solutions.

As trust, judgment, and commercial understanding are demonstrated, the role is expected to evolve into General Counsel responsibilities and may ultimately extend into broader strategic, operational, or leadership areas depending on the individual's interests and capabilities.

The ideal candidate is motivated by responsibility rather than hierarchy, and excited by the opportunity to earn increasing influence through performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Commercial & Transactional Legal

  • Draft and review commercial agreements, focusing on legal protections that are enforceable in practice and commercial provisions that meaningfully impact the business. Know which battles are worth picking.
  • Advise business teams across Product, Marketing, Operations, and Finance on day-to-day legal matters, applying sound judgment and proportionate risk assessment rather than defaulting to worst-case scenarios. The objective is to remove complexity from the business, not add to it.
  • Own intellectual property licensing, protection, and enforcement across the company's products, platforms, and brands.

2. Regulatory & Licensing

  • Own Pinnacle's legal obligations across jurisdictions including Ontario, Malta, Curacao, and Anjouan
  • Work alongside the Regulatory Affairs team on license applications, renewals, amendments, and ongoing compliance obligations
  • Manage the legal aspects of regulatory audits, inspections, and enforcement matters
  • Ensure the company's legal positions are pragmatic, well-reasoned, and proportionate to the risk at hand.

3. Risk & Dispute Management

  • Identify and manage legal risk across the business applying probabilistic thinking rather than responding to the worst-case scenario
  • Lead dispute resolution and manage litigation, arbitration, and regulatory enforcement matters
  • Maintain a dispute and settlement register and ensure appropriate escalation and reporting
  • Coordinate with external counsel as required

4. External Counsel Management

  • Act as the primary interface with external legal advisors across jurisdictions

5. Legal Operations & Systems

  • Maintain a well-organised legal operations infrastructure: contract lifecycle management, policy versioning, document storage, and regulatory reporting tracking
  • Own the end-to-end contract management process and ensure all agreements are properly executed, stored, and tracked
  • Develop and maintain internal legal templates and standard positions to support efficient and consistent decision-making
  • Ensure all legal and compliance documentation is current, accurate, and audit-ready

Experience:

  • Around 5–8 years' post-qualification legal experience; we will consider strong candidates at either end of that range if the overall profile is right
  • Background in iGaming, offshore, payments, fintech
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial contracts, IP law, and corporate law preferred
  • Proven ability to manage a varied caseload independently, prioritise effectively, and see matters through to resolution.
  • Exposure to multi-jurisdictional licensing environments and offshore regulatory frameworks is an advantage. Comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Additional experience outside of law — whether in business, operations, or another field — is viewed positively
  • Probabilistic thinking — optimizes for the most probable outcome rather than the worst-case scenario
  • Ownership mentality — takes responsibility for outcomes and sees matters through to completion rather than simply identifying issues

Traits and skills:

  • Self-driven and curious
  • Organized and structured
  • Common sense judgment
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Proportionate
  • Commercial minded
  • Decisive
  • Reliable and discreet
  • Willing to challenge
