JOB OUTLINE:
The Aviation Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, crew, and aircraft by conducting thorough screening and inspection of departing passengers and their belongings. This role involves adhering to strict security protocols, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a vigilant and professional demeanor in a high-pressure environment.
The position involves standing for extended periods and interacting with a diverse range of passengers. The Aviation Security Officer must be able to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally, often in a noisy and busy environment. The role may require shift work, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Passenger Screening and Security Checks:
- Conduct thorough screening of passengers, luggage, and personal items using X-ray machines, metal detectors, and physical inspection methods.
- Verify passengers' identification and boarding passes against flight manifests and ensure compliance with security regulations.
- Operating security equipment such as walk through metal detectors, hand wands at screening checkpoints and other ancillary equipment.
2. Security Protocols and Compliance:
- Enforce airport security regulations and protocols as mandated by aviation authorities and the airport management.
- Identify and report any suspicious activities, behaviours, or items to the appropriate authorities.
- Monitoring passenger flow through screening checkpoints to ensure order and efficiency.
- Controlling of access, checking identification or travel documents for all passengers, staff and airport users requiring access.
3. Customer Service and Communication:
- Provide clear instructions and assistance to passengers during the security screening process.
- Address passengers' questions and concerns in a polite and professional manner, maintaining a calm and courteous demeanor.
4. Emergency Response:
- Respond quickly and efficiently to security incidents, alarms, and emergencies, following established procedures.
- Assist in evacuations and coordinate with emergency response teams as needed.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records, as requested, of security incidents, passenger screenings, and equipment maintenance logs.
- Prepare reports, as requested, on any security breaches, incidents, or irregularities encountered during the shift.
6. Continuous Improvement and Training:
- Participate in regular training and drills to stay updated on the latest security technologies, procedures, and threats.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improving security processes and procedures.
7. Other tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
IDEAL REQUIREMENTS
- Secondary level of education at MQF Level 3 / 4
- Additional certifications in security or law enforcement are a plus.
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or aviation security is preferred.
- A good command of English and ideally Maltese
- Basic computer skills including the operation of IT equipment.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency in using security screening equipment and technologies.
- Must be able to pass a background check and obtain necessary security clearances.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical inspections.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
