Role Overview \nThe Chief Banking Officer will lead the overall performance of the Retail and Corporate/Commercial banking functions. This senior role holds full accountability for customer growth, product strategy, profitability, and service excellence across multiple business segments. The successful candidate will ensure the delivery of sustainable financial results, compliance with regulatory standards, and continuous enhancement of customer experience while fostering a high-performing and values-driven culture.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a multi-year business strategy for Retail and Corporate/Commercial banking in alignment with the Company’s growth objectives and risk appetite.
\n\t
Business Performance: Own the end-to-end P&L for both business lines, ensuring the achievement of loan, deposit, and fee income targets while maintaining portfolio quality and operational efficiency.
\n\t
Customer Experience & Distribution: Lead the optimisation of distribution channels, branch network performance, and digital sales initiatives, ensuring a seamless and customer-centric service delivery.
\n\t
Credit and Risk Management: Oversee credit origination frameworks, portfolio health, and first-line control effectiveness, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and sound risk management practices.
\n\t
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the banking divisions at Board and regulatory forums, maintaining transparent communication and adherence to all applicable regulations and internal governance policies.
\n\t
Leadership & Team Development: Build, mentor, and inspire a capable management team that upholds the Company’s values, fosters accountability, and cultivates a data-driven, customer-focused culture.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
\n\n
\n\t
Education: A degree in Business, Finance, or Economics is required. A Master’s qualification will be considered an asset.
\n\t
Experience: At least 12–15 years of senior banking leadership experience, with proven expertise in Retail and Corporate/Commercial segments. Strong exposure to Tier 1 or Tier 2 financial institutions and familiarity with EU/Maltese banking regulations are essential.
\n\t
Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
\n\t
Communication Skills: Strong communicator with the ability to articulate strategic direction clearly and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
\n\t
Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative and relationship-oriented, with the ability to lead diverse teams and influence across organisational boundaries.
