Role Overview \nThe Database Engineer will ensure the performance, availability, and security of the Company’s database systems. This role involves implementing best practices, supporting development teams, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining robust database operations within a dynamic IT infrastructure environment.

Key Responsibilities
\n\n

Database Maintenance: Maintain database systems to guarantee reliability, availability, and optimal performance.
\n\t
Backup and Recovery: Implement and monitor database backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical data.
\n\t
Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve database performance and integrity issues efficiently.
\n\t
Upgrades and Migrations: Support database upgrades, migrations, and patches to maintain current and secure systems.
\n\t
Database Security: Develop and enforce database security protocols, including auditing, encryption, access control, and compliance with regulatory standards such as GDPR and DORA.
\n\t
Performance Monitoring: Track database health through monitoring tools and scripts to proactively address potential issues.
\n\t
Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to optimise queries and database structures.
\n\t
Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, operational procedures, and system changes.
\n\t
Support: Provide responsive assistance to resolve database-related issues and ensure seamless operations.
\n\t
Shift Flexibility: Demonstrate readiness to operate within a 24/7 shift roster as required by the business.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
\n\n
\n\t
Education: MQF Level 5 in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, together with 3 years work experience; or MQF Level 6 Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related area, together with 1 year work experience. Candidates with no formal qualifications but having 4 years or more of related experience, will still be considered.
\n\t
Desirable qualifications: Qualifications in database administration such as Microsoft Azure DBA Associate, and Oracle DBA certification. Candidates with an MQF Level 4 qualification in Pure Mathematics will be given preference.
\n\t
Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required. Maltese language skills would be advantageous.
\n\t
Communication Skills: Strong ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
\n\t
Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative approach with the capacity to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
\n\t
Technical Skills: Expertise in relational and NoSQL databases, database performance tuning, query optimisation, replication, clustering, high-availability configurations, cloud fundamentals, scripting, and monitoring tools.
\n\t
Organisation: Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced IT environment with attention to detail.
\n\t
Self-Motivated: Proactive, hands-on approach, and able to work with minimal supervision.
\n\t
Problem-Solving: Skilled at analysing issues and implementing effective solutions under pressure.
