About This Job

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Designated Person Ashore (DPA) to join our shore-based team. The DPA will serve as the vital link between the company and its fleet, ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence across our managed vessels in accordance with the ISM Code.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary link between the ship and shore management on safety and pollution prevention matters.

Ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS).

Conduct regular vessel audits and inspections, both planned and unscheduled.

Monitor compliance with international maritime regulations (ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS, MLC) and company policies.

Advise and support Masters and crew in safety-related matters and emergency situations.

Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and ensure corrective/preventive actions are implemented and tracked.

Assist in the development and delivery of training programs and safety campaigns.

Liaise with Class, Flag State, Port State, and external auditors as necessary.

Participate in internal and external audits, including DOC and SMC verifications.

Collaborate with technical, crewing, and operations departments to foster a strong safety culture.

Requirements:

Valid COC (Class 1 or 2 Deck/Engine) or a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, or related discipline.

Minimum 2–3 years of sailing experience in a senior rank (Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, or higher) OR equivalent shore-based experience in a DPA or safety role.

In-depth knowledge of the ISM Code and other maritime regulations.

Familiarity with shipboard operations, audits, risk assessments, and incident reporting systems.

Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills.

Proficient in MS Office and SMS management software (e.g., DNV Navigator, ShipNet, Sertica, etc.).

Certification in ISM Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor training is an advantage.
