Are you passionate about maritime safety and compliance? Do you have the expertise to ensure smooth and efficient operations within the shipping industry? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Designated Person Ashore (DPA).

The Falzon Group of Companies is a fuel energy provider, supplying a vital service to local and international companies through oil bunkering, fuel distribution, waste oil management and terminal operations. SL Shipping Management Company Limited, a company within the Falzon Group of Company, is looking for a DPA to join its marine division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary contact between ship and shore for safety and pollution prevention matters
  • Ensure that all company vessels comply with international, national, and local maritime regulations
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s safety management system on company vessels
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to verify compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Provide guidance and support to the ship's crew on safety management and pollution prevention
  • Investigate incidents and non-conformities, implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Facilitate effective communication and co-operation between shipboard personnel and shore management
  • The role involves both land-based tasks and duties on vessels-in-transit.

Role Requirements:

Knowledge of :

  • National and international shipping regulations
  • Classification society surveys and audits
  • International safety management code
  • TMSA criteria

Qualifications:

  • Master, Chief Officer or Chief Engineer’s certificate, or be either a Naval Architect or a Marine Engineer
  • ISM, ISPS and MLC Lead Auditor Certification
  • 2 years working experience in the maritime industry

Skills and competences:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Very good verbal and report-writing skills in English and Maltese
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure
