Freelance Architect (Senior, Hourly, Project-Based)

Amanche Architecture is looking for a senior freelance architect to join its team in Malta on a project basis.

Amanche is an architectural studio based in Sliema, Malta. In under five years, our portfolio has grown across housing, hospitality, adaptive reuse, and interiors. Whether completed, ongoing, or speculative, every project reflects our core belief: that colour, detail, and honesty of form can enrich daily life and offer a powerful alternative to conformity in the built environment.

We are seeking a senior freelance architect to support our Sliema based studio on an as-needed basis across hospitality, luxury residential, retail and event space projects. Given the seniority of this role, we expect the successful candidate to take ownership of projects with minimal oversight, from concept through to detailed design, and to be able to guide junior team members when required. Work will be assigned per project depending on studio needs at the time.

We are looking for candidates who are confident, have an eye for detail and are passionate about design. Applicants should be comfortable working independently, managing their own time and projects end-to-end, and integrating smoothly with our team when needed. Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D software is essential. Knowledge of Revit would be seen as an asset.

This is a freelance, hourly-paid position with no fixed hours guaranteed; workload will vary by project. Remote work is possible; 50% of hours will need to be fulfilled within our studio.

Ideal Candidate:

• Minimum five years of architectural experience post Masters in Architecture (Architectural Design); 
• Proven track record in independently developing general arrangements and details, particularly in hospitality, residential and retail sectors;
• Demonstrated experience leading built projects; 
• Strong graphical skills; proficiency in 3D Modeling software; commercially minded whilst having a creative flair and a strong visual sense; 
• Capable of working autonomously and mentoring junior staff where needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Masters of Architecture (Architectural Design)
2. Minimum five years of professional experience as an architect, including project leadership
3. Proficiency in AutoCAD, 3D Modeling software and Adobe Suite
4. Knowledge of Maltese planning regulations and construction practices is advantageous
5. Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Good command of English (written and spoken)
2. Good command of Maltese (written and spoken)
