Role Overview
Our Client is seeking a skilled and dynamic individual to lead their Risk Advisory team within the financial services sector. The Head of Risk Advisory will oversee the risk management advisory services, lead a team of specialists, and manage high-level consultancy projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team, providing strategic advisory services to a varied portfolio of financial services clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading risk management advisory projects: Oversee and lead risk management projects, conducting risk assessments, providing outsourced risk and DPO functions, thematic reviews, gap analysis, and policy remediation.
- Managing a specialised unit: Take charge of the Risk Advisory division, overseeing day-to-day operations, managing a dedicated team, and ensuring smooth delivery of services.
- Coaching and mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to existing and new team members, helping them grow within their risk advisory roles and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Engagement in client consultancy: Lead consultancy engagements, particularly in risk management, data protection, ESG, and related fields, ensuring clients receive tailored advice to meet their unique needs.
- Business development: Identify new opportunities in risk consultancy, pitch services to new industries, and engage with existing clients to expand the range of services provided.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Qualifications: A university degree or an equivalent qualification in finance, banking, business, economics, accounting, risk management, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: A minimum of 8+ years experience within the financial services sector, with at least 5+ years in a risk management, compliance, or similar advisory role.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English is essential, with the ability to communicate in Maltese considered advantageous.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly and concisely.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge in risk management, particularly financial risks (liquidity, capital, credit, market) and non-financial risks (operational, compliance, IT security). Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Organisation: Excellent organisational skills, able to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Self-Motivated: A proactive individual with a drive for excellence and a strong work ethic.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk and develop strategic solutions to mitigate challenges.
