Role Overview
Our Client is seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Risk to oversee and strengthen its risk management framework across all business lines. This is a senior-level, MFSA-approved role requiring a forward-thinking leader who will drive the risk strategy, partner with executive teams, and proactively identify and mitigate risks in a rapidly evolving financial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Strategy & Oversight: Lead the enterprise-wide risk management strategy by identifying key risks and implementing effective mitigation plans that align with the Company’s goals. Manage a team of analysts.
\r\n
Policy & Framework Management: Maintain and enhance risk management policies and procedures, ensuring they reflect current regulations and evolving business activities.
\r\n
Risk Monitoring Programme: Implement and regularly update a robust risk monitoring programme that captures the full spectrum of operational, financial, and compliance risks.
\r\n
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments and leadership to embed a strong risk culture and advise on risk factors affecting business decisions.
\r\n
Reporting & Governance: Prepare and present detailed risk assessments and reports for the Risk & Audit Committee and the Board of Directors, contributing to strategic discussions.
\r\n
Innovation & Improvement: Promote continuous improvement and innovation in risk processes, tools, and technologies.
\r\n
Credit Risk Oversight: Provide expert oversight of the Company’s credit risk activities, particularly within lending and credit facility operations.
\r\n
Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry trends to ensure the business remains compliant and competitive.
\r\n

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
\r\n
\r\n
Regulatory Fit: Must possess the knowledge and experience required to be approved by the MFSA as Head of Risk for both payment services and investment services. Exposure to both sectors is essential.
\r\n
Education: Holds or is working towards a recognised qualification in Risk Management (e.g. FRM) required for MFSA approval as a Head of Risk.
\r\n
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a senior risk management role within the financial services or banking sector, with demonstrated expertise in both payments and investments. Experience in credit risk is highly desirable.
\r\n
Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
\r\n
Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate complex risk matters clearly and persuasively to diverse stakeholders.
\r\n
Interpersonal Skills: Builds trust and credibility with internal teams and external regulatory bodies.
\r\n
Technical Skills: Advanced computer literacy with a strong command of Microsoft Excel and risk management systems.
\r\n
Organisation: Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
\r\n
Self-Motivated: Demonstrates initiative and leadership, working with minimal supervision to drive results.
\r\n
Problem-Solving: Analytical thinker with a proactive approach to identifying problems and implementing practical solutions.
