Role Overview \nOur Client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Risk to strengthen its enterprise-wide risk framework. This MFSA-approved senior leadership role requires a proactive individual to drive the risk agenda, oversee compliance and regulatory standards, and ensure effective risk management across all operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in engaging with senior stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and the Board of Directors, while leading a dedicated risk management team.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Framework Development: Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework that addresses fraud, credit, financial, and regulatory risks.
\n\t
Risk Assessments & Controls: Conduct in-depth risk assessments and implement robust controls to mitigate identified risks.
\n\t
Technology & Efficiency: Drive technological advancements within the risk function by leveraging both internal and external tools to enhance efficiency.
\n\t
Policies & Procedures: Oversee the development and continuous refinement of SOPs and risk management policies, ensuring effective adoption across all business areas.
\n\t
Regulatory & Industry Awareness: Stay updated on evolving regulations and best practices, ensuring compliance across all risk-related activities.
\n\t
Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Analysts and Managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
\n\t
Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with senior leaders to establish standards, processes, and programmes aligned with best practice in risk management.
\n\t
Governance & Reporting: Prepare and present detailed risk reports for the Risk Committee and Board of Directors, chair the Risk Committee, and participate in other governance committees as required.
\n\t
Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary contact for the MFSA and other regulatory bodies, managing audits and responding to official requests.
\n\t
Training & Development: Deliver risk management training to the team and promote a strong risk culture across the business.
\n

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
\n\n
\n\t
Education: Must possess the necessary qualifications and experience to meet MFSA approval as a Risk Officer.
\n\t
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a senior managerial role within banking, investment services, or the wider financial sector. Prior exposure to lending or transaction monitoring is highly desirable, and experience in investment services will be considered an asset.
\n\t
Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
\n\t
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present findings and recommendations.
\n\t
Interpersonal Skills: Team-oriented leader with excellent relationship-building skills, capable of influencing and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels.
\n\t
Technical Skills: Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, with strong analytical and data interpretation capabilities.
\n\t
Organisation: Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
