Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Strategically direct the FIAU’s Supervision Section, ensuring full alignment with the FIAU’s mission and objectives.
Shape the direction of risk-based AML/CFT supervision by setting policies, procedures, and strategic priorities that align with FATF and EU standards.
Foster a high-performance culture by mentoring and developing a results-driven team, while championing best practices in supervision, governance, and risk-based decision-making.
Monitor and assess emerging ML/FT risks and regulatory developments to inform supervisory priorities.
Ensure efficient resource management, optimising team structures, workflows, and performance monitoring processes.
Build strong relationships and collaboration with various national and international authorities, including the Malta Financial Services Authority, Malta Gaming Authority, and other relevant bodies, to ensure a cohesive approach to AML/CFT supervision.
Advise the Director, Deputy Director, Board of Governors, and other key senior stakeholders, on AML/CFT risk-based supervision and emerging risks.
Contribute to the FIAU’s long-term strategic planning by collaborating with senior leadership to shape future goals and initiatives.
Lead research and analysis on key supervisory topics, producing reports, studies, and evaluations.
Represent the FIAU in international fora, including participation in AML/CFT assessments, working groups and conferences.
Oversee and drive special projects, offering strategic leadership on new initiatives and challenges.
Requirements:
The chosen candidate must possess an MQF Level 6 qualification or higher in Law, Accounting, Audit, Banking and Finance, Financial Services, Insurance, Economics or in any related subject.
A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity, with a proven track record of managing teams and driving strategic initiatives.
In-depth knowledge of Maltese AML/CFT legislation, EU Directives, international standards, and other relevant domestic regulations across both financial and non-financial sectors. Familiarity with sector operations is considered an asset.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, and lead high-performance teams.
Excellent interpersonal skills to engage effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage projects, teams, and complex regulatory initiatives.
Excellent analytical abilities to assess complex regulatory challenges, with a data-driven approach to decision-making and problem-solving.
Capacity to drive continuous improvement and adapt to a dynamic regulatory landscape.
Highly articulate communicator, fluent in both written and spoken English and Maltese.
