Role Purpose

This role’s main function is to review and maintain the aspects of Health, Safety, Environment and Fire (HSEF) Management in line with local statutory requirements, ISO45001 requirements, ISO14001 requirements and Group Corporate Standards, also including Sustainability elements.

Job holder is required to identify and understand HSEF & Sustainability concerns/opportunities and clearly communicate solutions to internal stakeholders, convince people to change their methods and beliefs through educating them, and then continue motivating individuals to continue their changed behaviour.

He/She is also expected to take part in achieving a level of HSEF & Sustainability management that leads the local manufacturing sector and work with others to protect the health and safety of staff, visitors and contractors by ensuring that H&S risks in the workplace are properly controlled, and to also ensure that impacts on the environment are adequately managed and subsequently minimised.

Main Responsibilities

By design this role is aimed to support the HSE Advisor in order to:

· Promote world class HSEF practices throughout all manufacturing activities at De La Rue Malta;

· Ensure, at minimum, legal compliance and reduce risk of non-compliance in areas within job holder’s remit;

· Develop and monitor effective risk management strategies and take active participation in the implementation of these strategies;

· Keep Senior Management, Line Management and all staff abreast of relevant HSEF Legislation and Codes of Practice;

· Review and develop HSEF policies, procedures and guidance, in keeping with best practice and make recommendations on their implementation and application.

· Liaise with the relevant departments to ensure that policies, practices and procedures meet legal and system requirements;

· Guide and support Senior Management and the relevant reporting lines in maintaining compliance to the relevant Management System standards;

· Design and provide internal training for staff in relation to HSEF policies, practice and procedures;

· Take active part in the HSE WorkGroups;

· Support SaS Leaders in performing their role effectively and raising their level of competence through involvement.

· To always act and behave in a way compliant with all De La Rue values, guidelines and policies, especially those relating to HSE, security, ethics and codes of conduct.

Working hours

· Normal day working hours (0700hrs to 1530hrs); remuneration package caters for additional attended hours that may occasionally be required.

· At De La Rue we prioritize performance and results over presence. Whilst our standard work arrangement is traditional office hours, we offer flexibility and remote work options on a case by case basis. These arrangements will be mutually agreed upon by the employee and their line managers, ensuring that business needs are met whilst supporting individual work styles.

Reporting

· Monthly report submitted to Security, HSE & Risk Manager in case of absence of HSE Advisor.

· Supporting HSE Advisor in compiling and submitting annual reporting to competent authorities and group as required by the various standards and applicable legislative requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

· NEBOSH Environmental Certificate and/or NEBOSH OHS Certificate required,

· 3 years’ experience in H&S/HSE Management in a HSE related position desirable; Diploma in Health & Safety, or Diploma in a H&S discipline desirable.

· Eagerness to learn, develop and grow;

· Sound knowledge of HSE legislation & industry practices;

· Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision;

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines;

· Ability to define problem areas, collect, interpret, and evaluate complex technical data and draw valid conclusions;

· Ability to effectively present information to management, associates and regulatory agencies;

· Demonstrated ability to influence others via strong relationships and analytical skills;

· Effective collaboration and leadership skills and the ability to influence individuals to implement policies, procedures and guidelines without direct authority;

· Proficiency in using MS Office applications.

Competencies

· Functional Knowledge: Requires a good understanding of HSE legislation and relevant management system processes.

· Business Expertise: Previous experience in manufacturing/process industry is ideal.

· Leadership: Needs to exhibit good leadership and influential skills on a wider scale through consistent support, managing timeframes and leading by example

· Problem Solving: Role requires sound knowledge of BAT’s and risk aversion solutions

· Nature of Impact: The main impact of the role will be through the quality and delivery of their work; measured through compliance with established KPI’s

· Area of Impact: Whole site

· Interpersonal Skills: Will need to influence employees to follow HSEF procedures through the application of sound leadership skills.
