Material Handler Operator

We are seeking an experienced Material Handler Operator to join our operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient discharge of aggregates from vessels directly onto trucks, ensuring work is carried out to the highest standards of safety and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy material handling equipment to discharge aggregates from vessels directly onto waiting trucks.
• Ensure efficient loading operations while minimising delays and maintaining productivity.
• Carry out daily pre-start inspections and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
• Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures at all times.
• Work closely with supervisors, vessel crews and truck drivers to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Complete routine operator maintenance and daily care of the equipment.

Additional Duties

During periods when there are no vessel discharge operations, the successful candidate will be expected to:

• Carry out routine maintenance and cleaning of the excavator and associated equipment.
• Assist with general maintenance, housekeeping and organisation of the company's garage and workshop.
• Help maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean, tidy and serviceable condition.
• Support the team with other general operational and maintenance tasks as required.

Requirements

• Experience operating heavy material handling equipment in a port, quarry, bulk handling or similar environment.
• Experience with vessel discharge operations is highly desirable.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to carry out routine equipment maintenance.
• Good understanding of safe working practices around heavy plant and marine operations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, safety-conscious and willing to work flexible hours, including overtime when required.
