Mechanical Equipment Technician

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Equipment Technician to join our technical team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing and commissioning of a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems, including boilers, heat pumps, compressors, power generators, pumps, burners, LPG systems and associated plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission, test, document and hand over mechanical equipment, systems and plant.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and perform troubleshooting and repairs efficiently and safely.
  • Carry out mechanical fitting and basic pipe-fitting works as required.
  • Conduct inspections to identify mechanical faults, deterioration and potential equipment failures.
  • Work on equipment including boilers, burners, heat pumps, compressors, pumps, engines, generators and LPG systems.
  • Assist with the installation and modification of mechanical plant and associated services.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, schematics and equipment documentation.
  • Complete service reports, commissioning documentation and maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project and operations teams to ensure reliable equipment performance.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship and professionalism when working at customer sites.
  • Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with applicable health and safety procedures and company standards.
  • Attend technical and manufacturer training courses, both locally and overseas, when required.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates should preferably have proven experience as a Mechanical Equipment Technician or hold a relevant technical qualification, such as:

  • MQF Level 5 Higher Technician Diploma (HTD) related to Mechanical Engineering, subject to the applicable credit requirements; or
  • An equivalent technical qualification awarded by City & Guilds or another recognised educational institution.

Technical Skills

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Good practical knowledge of mechanical plant rooms and equipment.
  • Experience with engines, burners, boilers, pumps, heat pumps, compressors, generators and LPG equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and controls associated with mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical fitting and pipe fitting.
  • Ability to safely and competently use hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, mechanical drawings, schematics and equipment documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a technical team.

Personal Requirements

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of new technologies and equipment.
  • Willingness to attend specialised technical training in Malta and overseas.
  • Ability to work responsibly at customer premises and represent the company professionally.
  • Valid driving licence is required.

We are particularly interested in individuals who are hands-on, technically minded and eager to develop their skills. Experience is valuable, but we also welcome technically qualified candidates who have the right attitude and are willing to receive further specialised training.
