Role Overview \nThe Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing a portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and timely completion of tax and VAT obligations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a proactive attitude in supporting both clients and junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Client Accounting: Oversee bookkeeping and accounting processes for an assigned client portfolio, including invoice posting, bank reconciliations, and managing accruals and prepayments.
\n\t
Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed monthly and quarterly management accounts, liaise with auditors, and review financial statements in line with IFRS and GAPSME standards.
\n\t
VAT and Tax Compliance: Compile and submit VAT returns, tax returns, and tax refund claim forms accurately and on time.
\n\t
Team Leadership: Review work completed by junior accountants, providing feedback, guidance, and support to ensure accuracy and professional growth.
\n\t
Client Liaison: Communicate directly with clients to collect required documentation and ensure their accounting and tax obligations are met efficiently.
\n\t
Regulatory Coordination: Liaise with auditors and tax authorities to ensure compliance with relevant laws and respond to any regulatory notices.
\n\t
Technical Research: Stay informed on tax laws, regulations, and applicable credit schemes to assist clients and provide accurate, up-to-date advice.
\n\t
Management Support: Assist management with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
\n\t
Business Insight: Understand the firm’s full range of services and identify opportunities to offer clients additional value.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
\n\n
\n\t
Education: ACCA qualification or a recognised Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
\n\t
Experience: At least four years of progressive experience in accounting within a well-established audit or accounting firm. Preference will be given to candidates with Big 4 experience and a minimum of two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
\n\t
Language Skills: Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Maltese is considered an advantage.
\n\t
Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel capabilities are required.
\n\t
Communication Skills: Able to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and confidently in both verbal and written forms.
\n\t
Interpersonal Skills: Collaborative and attentive, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multinational team.
\n\t
Leadership: Demonstrates strong leadership skills, with the capacity to inspire, coach, and guide team members effectively.
