&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Overall Purpose of the Position&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Senior Officer (AI Supervision and Market Surveillance) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the regulatory integrity of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications within the European Union’s regulatory framework. By overseeing compliance with the EU AI Act and other pertinent legislation, this position contributes to fostering best-in-class frameworks.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Main Duties &amp;amp; Responsibilities&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Senior Officer shall be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities, but not limited to:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Coordinating AI supervision and market surveillance efforts to ensure compliance with the EU AI Act and relevant legislation;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Developing and implementing policies and procedures aligned with the established quality management system;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Conducting risk assessments in accordance with best practices;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Investigating potential AI-related legislative breaches, including conducting inspections as necessary;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Engaging with stakeholders, including industry representatives, academia, and civil society groups, to facilitate dialogue and promote responsible AI practices;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Preparing comprehensive reports and providing expert advice to the Malta Digital Innovation Authority, the European Commission, and other relevant bodies;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Keeping abreast of the latest developments in AI technology and regulations to ensure MDIA’s leadership in AI governance;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Representing Malta and MDIA in international and EU forums and drafting positions in response to requests;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Authority Levels&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Implementing the day-to-day operations of the Unit;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Delegating responsibility to staff as may be required;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Making recommendations to the Reporting Officer.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Working Conditions&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Attendance outside normal office hours may be required in crises and / or to meet deadlines;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Duties abroad as required in line with the exigencies of the Authority.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Main Communication Channels (Key Working Relationships)&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Liaison with Departments of the Authority and with other bodies;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Liaison with AI Office, AI Board, Other Competent Authorities;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Dealing with economic operators.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Job Requirements&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must be:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;(1)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;a) citizens of Malta; or&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;b) citizens of other Member States of the European Union who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters of employment by virtue of EU legislation and treaty provisions dealing with the free movement of workers; or&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;c) citizens of any other country who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters related to employment by virtue of the application to that country of EU legislation and treaty provisions dealing with the free movement of workers; or&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;d) any other persons who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters related to employment in terms of the law or the above-mentioned EU legislation and treaty provisions, on account of their family relationship with persons mentioned in paragraph (a), (b) or (c); or&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;e) third country nationals who have been granted long-term resident status in Malta under regulation 4 of the “Status of Long-Term Residents (Third Country Nationals) Regulations, 2006” or who have been granted a residence permit under regulation 18(3) thereof, together with family members of such third country nationals who have been granted a residence permit under the “Family Reunification Regulations, 2007”; or&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;f) in possession of a residence document issued in terms of the “Residence Status of United Kingdom Nationals and their Family Members in Malta in accordance with the Agreement on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community Regulations”.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The advice of the Citizenship Unit within Community Malta Agency and the Expatriates Unit within Identity Malta Agency should be sought as necessary in the interpretation of the above provisions.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The appointment of candidates referred to at (b), (c), (d) and (e) above would necessitate the issue of an employment licence in so far as this is required by the Immigration Act and subsidiary legislation. JobsPlus should be consulted as necessary on this issue.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;And&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;(2) Applicants must be in possession of one of the following:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;i. A recognised Bachelor’s degree at MQF Level 6* (subject to a minimum of 180 ECTS/ECVET credits or equivalent**) in AI or Engineering or in a pertinent and relevant area of study, plus two (2) years proven relevant work experience;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;or&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ii. Candidates who do not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but have at least ten (10) years of relevant regulatory experience, may still apply as the MDIA may still be interested in speaking with them.&lt;br&gt;Possession of a post graduate degree in a discipline relevant to AI, and, or Engineering would be considered an asset.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;*It is the responsibility of applicants in possession of qualifications awarded by Universities and other similar institutions outside Malta to produce a recognition statement at application stage on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC). The MQRIC is the competent body within the MFHEA that recognizes qualifications against the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF). &lt;p&gt;** A recognised Qualification comparable to the required number of ECTS/ECVET credits, as applicable, is only accepted subject to an MQRIC formal recognition statement being submitted with the application.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;(3) Able to communicate in Maltese and English Languages.&lt;/p&gt;
