AIMS International Malta is proud to partner with a well-established Business Advisory firm, renowned for its diverse operations across multiple industries. As part of their continued growth, they are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated Tax Advisory Leader to drive their direct tax advisory practice.
In this role, you will focus exclusively on direct tax advisory, providing strategic guidance and high-level technical input to client-facing teams, while delivering clear, practical, and confident written advice. You will also take the lead on advisory projects and play a key role in expanding the firm’s advisory capabilities, with a clear path toward a leadership position.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong, commercially minded tax professional with the drive to build and lead a new advisory vertical, reporting directly to the Head of Tax.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret complex direct tax legislation and case law, and translate it into decisive, practical advice.
- Draft clear, structured, and technically sound tax opinions, memos, and recommendations.
- Act as the go-to expert for internal teams and clients on direct tax advisory matters.
- Monitor legislative developments and bring timely insights to the team and clients.
- Contribute to technical discussions, workshops, and training initiatives.
- Take ownership of project delivery timelines and help junior colleagues improve their understanding of key tax issues.
- Prepare clients and internal stakeholders for implementation of tax advice and follow-up questions.
Requirements:
- A recognised qualification in accountancy or law (e.g. ACCA, CPA, or equivalent).
- A specialised qualification in tax (e.g. ADIT, Master’s in Tax, or equivalent).
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in tax advisory, ideally within a professional services firm or an international tax environment.
- Proven experience working on technically complex direct tax matters, such as corporate structuring, shareholder exits, financing structures, or treaty interpretation.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Demonstrated project ownership and ability to lead advisory engagements from scoping to delivery.
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with Maltese and international direct tax legislation, including double tax treaties and anti-avoidance provisions.
- Understanding of EU tax directives (e.g. ATAD, Parent-Subsidiary Directive).
- Experience advising on cross-border transactions, group restructurings, or transfer pricing.
- Track record of contributing to internal training, thought leadership, or knowledge management.
- A managerial role with the ability to lead, manage, and hold others accountable (LMA potential).
Important Personal skills and attributes:
- Analytical mindset with a love for clarity and structured thinking.
- Detail-oriented and committed to technical excellence.
- Curious, research-driven, and motivated to understand the "why".
- Self-managed, organised, and proactive in seeing projects through.
- Communicates clearly and confidently in both writing and verbal interactions.
- Collaborative and approachable, with a professional and accountable attitude.
Benefits:
- A support structure to grow the individual into a recognised thought leader in industry.
- Ongoing employee recognition and performance rewards.
- Regular team building events and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Opportunities for continuous professional development and training.
- A workplace culture that values its employees and fosters a sense of community.
- A hybrid work policy that supports work-life balance.
- Health insurance cover.
