Role Overview

The Accountant will oversee the financial administration of a designated group of international clients, acting as a dependable point of contact for their accounting requirements. The position covers bookkeeping, financial reporting, statutory submissions and payroll administration, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, forward planning and dependable service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Administration: Manage the accounting requirements of assigned client entities, taking responsibility for the quality and punctual completion of all agreed work.
  • Bookkeeping and Records: Process financial transactions and keep complete, orderly and reliable accounting information for internationally based clients.
  • Financial Reporting: Compile supporting schedules, periodic financial statements and documentation required for the annual accounts process.
  • Statutory Compliance: Prepare and submit Maltese VAT documentation, income tax obligations and payroll-related filings within the applicable timeframes.
  • Deadline Management: Maintain oversight of upcoming reporting dates, regulatory obligations and client commitments, taking early action to prevent delays.
  • Client Communication: Obtain documentation from clients, address accounting-related questions and follow up promptly when information remains outstanding.
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with accounting leadership, experienced team members, tax professionals and relationship managers to coordinate client assignments.
  • External Coordination: Supply auditors and other external service providers with the records and explanations needed to complete their work efficiently.
  • Process Enhancement: Contribute ideas that strengthen accounting procedures, improve internal systems and create more efficient ways of working.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education: Candidates should be progressing towards the midpoint of ACCA studies or pursuing another comparable professional accountancy qualification.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of relevant employment within a corporate services provider, accountancy practice or similar finance function is required. Previous exposure to audit work would be advantageous.
  • International Client Exposure: Experience supporting clients in a professional, internationally oriented environment is expected.
  • Language Skills: An excellent standard of written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of Maltese would be considered beneficial.
  • Communication Skills: The successful candidate must communicate financial matters clearly, request information confidently and maintain professional correspondence with different stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to establish credible and constructive working relationships with clients, colleagues, advisers and external providers is important.
  • Technical Knowledge: Candidates should understand core accounting principles, reconciliations, periodic reporting and the preparation of files for annual financial statements.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with the practical application of Malta’s VAT and corporate income tax framework is required.
  • Systems Proficiency: Practical experience with accounting platforms is expected, with familiarity with Xero regarded favourably.
  • Organisation: The role requires careful planning, close attention to detail and the ability to balance several assignments with competing completion dates.
  • Self-Motivated: A proactive approach, personal accountability and the willingness to identify upcoming requirements without continuous supervision are essential.
  • Problem-Solving: Candidates should be able to examine financial information, recognise potential complications and develop workable solutions before issues escalate.
