Role Overview

Our Client is seeking a qualified and experienced Accountant to join its finance department on a full-time basis. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will manage daily accounting operations, supervise the accounting team, and maintain high standards of financial accuracy and regulatory compliance.

This position offers the opportunity to take on a key role within the finance function, contributing to financial reporting, budget preparation, and business decision-making while supporting the continued development of the Company's financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Accounting Operations: Coordinate and manage the Company's daily financial activities, ensuring that accounting records are properly maintained and financial procedures are consistently followed.

• Financial Transactions: Monitor the processing and documentation of financial transactions, ensuring that information is recorded correctly and within established reporting deadlines.

• Team Supervision: Lead and support members of the accounting department, allocating responsibilities, monitoring performance, and encouraging effective teamwork.

• Financial Reporting: Work closely with the Group Financial Controller to compile financial statements, prepare supporting documentation, and contribute to periodic reporting requirements.

• Budgeting Support: Participate in the preparation and monitoring of departmental and company budgets, assisting with financial planning and expenditure reviews.

• Financial Analysis: Evaluate financial information and prepare relevant insights to help management assess performance and make informed business decisions.

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure accounting practices are consistent with applicable financial reporting standards, VAT requirements, and relevant legislation.

• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to strengthen internal accounting procedures, improve efficiency, and maintain reliable financial controls.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

• Education: Fully qualified Accountant with a recognised professional accounting qualification.

• Experience: A minimum of three years' relevant accounting experience gained within the Maltese market, preferably involving responsibility for supervising or coordinating a finance team.

• Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.

• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the confidence to explain financial information clearly to colleagues and management.

• Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to guide team members, maintain positive working relationships, and collaborate effectively across different departments.

• Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Maltese VAT regulations, together with advanced spreadsheet capabilities and experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.

• Organisation: Excellent planning and time-management abilities, with the capacity to coordinate several responsibilities while meeting strict financial deadlines.

• Self-Motivated: A responsible and proactive professional who demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of work.

• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical abilities, with the confidence to investigate financial discrepancies, identify practical solutions, and recommend improvements.

• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated supervisory capabilities, with the ability to organise workloads, provide guidance, and promote productivity within the accounting team.
