Roles & Responsibilities:
The Business Development and Corporate Relations Officer represents Saint James Hospital Group externally, identifying and securing new business opportunities and acting as the main point of contact between the Group and its corporate clients, insurers, referring practitioners and other partners. The role is responsible for growing patient volumes and revenue across the Group’s facilities by building, maintaining and strengthening long-term relationships, and by ensuring that partners and clients receive a consistent, professional and responsive service. The post holder works closely with clinical, operational, finance and marketing teams to turn opportunities into agreed services, and reports regularly to management on activity, results and market developments.
Business Development
- Identify, research and pursue new business opportunities with companies, insurers, embassies, associations, hotels, schools, sports organisations and other entities that can refer or contract services to the Group.
- Promote the Group’s full range of services, including outpatient clinics, diagnostics, surgery, health screening and corporate health packages, through meetings, presentations and site visits.
- Prepare proposals, quotations and service agreements in coordination with Finance and the relevant clinical and operational leads, and follow them through to signature.
- Develop corporate and occupational health packages tailored to client needs, and propose new services or partnerships based on market feedback.
- Support the preparation of tender and partnership submissions as required.
- Monitor competitor activity, pricing and market trends, and recommend actions to management.
Liaison
- Act as the primary point of contact between the Group and its external partners, ensuring that queries, requests and issues are handled promptly and brought to resolution.
- Liaise with internal departments, including front office, billing, clinics, wards, diagnostics and marketing, to ensure that agreed services are delivered as promised.
- Coordinate with health insurers and third-party payers on agreements, pre-authorisations, tariffs and service issues, in collaboration with the billing team.
- Liaise with referring general practitioners, consultants and other healthcare professionals to facilitate referrals and keep them informed of the Group’s services and developments.
- Represent the Group at meetings, networking events, conferences, health fairs and community initiatives.
Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing clients and partners through regular contact, scheduled account reviews and visits.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of contacts, meetings, opportunities and agreements in the Group’s client relationship system.
- Gather and act on client and partner feedback, handle complaints professionally, and escalate matters to management where necessary.
- Monitor the renewal dates of agreements and lead renewal discussions in good time.
- Identify opportunities to extend existing relationships to additional services or facilities within the Group.
Reporting and General
- Agree annual targets with management and report monthly on activity, pipeline, new agreements, referral volumes and revenue generated.
- Work with the Marketing team on campaigns, promotional material and events aimed at corporate and partner audiences.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with data protection legislation, Group policies and professional and ethical standards at all times.
- Travel between the Group’s facilities and to client premises as required, and attend occasional events outside normal working hours.
- Carry out any other duties, reasonably related to the role, as may be assigned by management.
Requirements:
- A diploma or degree in business, marketing, management, healthcare management or a related field, or equivalent proven experience.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in business development, sales, account management or client relations, preferably in healthcare, insurance, pharmaceuticals or another service industry.
- An established network of contacts in the local business community will be considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with fluency in spoken and written English and Maltese; knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to deal confidently with senior decision-makers.
- A professional, courteous and diplomatic manner, with a strong customer service orientation.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to prepare proposals, analyse figures and report on results.
- Self-motivated, well organised and target-driven, able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with client relationship management systems.
- A high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- A clean driving licence and own transport.
