Role Overview

The Senior Analyst will support the Company’s capital planning, funding and shareholder-related activities while contributing to the broader financial strategy of the Business. Reporting to a Senior Manager, the role involves financial modelling, market research, transaction coordination and the preparation of information for senior decision-makers, investors and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Capital and Funding Transactions: Help coordinate the different stages of capital-raising and debt-financing exercises by preparing information, organising supporting documentation and facilitating the relevant approval processes.
  • Financial Instrument Records: Maintain reliable information on the Company’s capital and funding arrangements, covering common equity, Additional Tier 1, Tier 2, MREL-compliant instruments, qualifying deposits and commercial paper.
  • Capital Structure Analysis: Evaluate the composition of the Company’s capital resources and provide analysis aimed at improving financial efficiency and managing funding costs.
  • Strategic Forecasting: Assist with financial projections covering capital ratios, risk-weighted assets, funding requirements and performance measures across expected and adverse conditions.
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning: Contribute to annual budgets and medium-term forecasts, ensuring that planned balance-sheet activity remains consistent with capital priorities and regulatory expectations.
  • Management Information: Produce clear analysis to assist senior leaders in assessing capital allocation, distributions to shareholders and other strategically important proposals.
  • Stress and Sensitivity Analysis: Examine the potential effect of different assumptions on capital strength, regulatory buffers and prudential obligations.
  • Shareholder Distribution Assessment: Review the performance and suitability of shareholder distribution approaches, which may include bonus shares, dividend reinvestment arrangements and scrip alternatives.
  • Share Buy-Back Activities: Support the planning and administration of share repurchase initiatives, including the development of monitoring reports and performance measures.
  • Treasury Share Administration: Track shares acquired through repurchase activity and assist with preparations for their possible future allocation or use.
  • Employee Share Arrangements: Coordinate with Finance, People and Culture, and other departments on matters connected with share-based employee reward programmes.
  • Return Analysis: Monitor measures such as Return on Equity and prepare insights concerning shareholder value and financial performance.
  • Capital Optimisation Tools: Maintain and improve analytical models used to evaluate repurchase decisions, capital efficiency and balance-sheet opportunities.
  • Market Intelligence: Follow developments in capital markets, financing conditions and the wider banking environment, translating relevant findings into periodic updates.
  • Peer Benchmarking: Compare the Company’s financial results, funding approach and capital position with those of other banking institutions.
  • Investor Materials: Assist in producing presentations, briefing documents and roadshow materials for discussions with institutional investors and investment banks.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Help organise investor-related activities while ensuring that figures, strategic messages and supporting information remain accurate and consistent.
  • Additional Support: Carry out other reasonable responsibilities connected with the position when assigned by management.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education and Experience: Candidates should meet one of the following combinations:
    • An MQF Level 6 Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Economics, Banking or Investment Services, together with at least two years of relevant professional experience; or
    • An MQF Level 5 qualification in one of these disciplines, supported by at least four years of applicable experience; or
    • At least five years of suitable professional experience without the above qualifications.
  • Relevant Background: Previous exposure should have been gained in capital management, financial forecasting, investment banking or a comparable area within banking or financial services.
  • Postgraduate Qualifications: Applicants with fewer years of experience may still be considered where they hold a completed and directly relevant postgraduate degree at a higher level.
  • Minimum Eligibility: Unless already qualified at MQF Level 6 or above, applicants must possess at least four O’Level passes at Grade 5/C or better, including English Language.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Able to explain financial findings clearly and prepare polished written material for senior leaders, investors and other professional audiences.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Builds constructive working relationships and collaborates effectively with colleagues, advisers, financial institutions and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrates sound knowledge of capital instruments, funding structures, financial forecasting, regulatory capital measures and shareholder return analysis.
  • Analytical Ability: Confident in interpreting financial and market information, comparing alternative scenarios and transforming complex data into useful recommendations.
  • Organisation: Capable of managing several assignments simultaneously, maintaining accurate records and completing work within demanding timeframes.
  • Attention to Detail: Applies care and consistency when reviewing financial data, reports, models and investor-facing documentation.
  • Self-Motivated: Approaches responsibilities with energy, accountability and a clear focus on delivering meaningful results.
  • Teamwork: Contributes positively to shared priorities and supports colleagues in meeting departmental objectives.
  • Problem-Solving: Uses sound judgement and structured analysis to address financial, operational and strategic challenges.
