Role Overview

Heroix is working with our Client to appoint a Chief Financial Officer who will help guide financial decisions across the Business. Based within the hotel division, the successful candidate will lead its finance function while maintaining oversight of the wider group. Reporting to the Board and shareholders, they will turn financial information into practical recommendations for stronger trading performance and future growth. An immediate start is available.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Direction: Shape financial plans for the hotel division and wider Business, advise the Board on investment and commercial decisions, and assess how proposed initiatives may affect returns and funding needs.
• Planning and Reporting: Lead hotel management accounts, budgets and forecasts. Explain results against plan, recommend action where performance falls short, and give the Board clear measures of financial and operational progress.
• Hotel Performance: Partner with hotel leaders to examine occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), revenue per available room (RevPAR), food and beverage results, staffing expenditure and margins. Use these findings to address lost income, avoidable costs and operational gaps.
• Cash and Financial Stewardship: Manage liquidity and working capital, with close attention to customer balances, supplier payments, purchasing and expenditure. Set useful financial targets and establish clear ownership of results across the properties.
• Controls, Compliance and Team Leadership: Oversee the hotels’ tax, VAT, statutory accounts and external audit requirements under Maltese rules. Strengthen approval procedures, develop finance colleagues and improve systems and automation across the hotel division, while reviewing financial processes elsewhere in the group.

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

• Education: A recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ACCA or an equivalent qualification recognised in Malta.
• Experience: Substantial experience leading a finance function and developing finance teams. A background in hotels, hospitality, leisure or another business operating across multiple sites would be advantageous, particularly where hotel finance systems are involved.
• Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
• Communication Skills: Able to present financial findings and recommendations clearly to Board members, owners and operational leaders.
• Interpersonal Skills: Confident working with senior decision-makers while building productive relationships with hotel managers and finance colleagues.
• Technical Skills: Strong command of financial accounts, planning, forecasting, cash management and internal controls, together with Maltese tax and statutory obligations. Advanced Excel ability and experience with finance or ERP systems are required.
• Organisation: Capable of managing reporting deadlines and regulatory commitments while staying closely involved in daily hotel finance matters.
• Self-Motivated: Takes initiative, exercises sound judgement and handles commercially sensitive information with care.
• Problem-Solving: Uses detailed analysis and commercial insight to identify the causes of weak performance and recommend workable improvements.
