About This Job

Chief Technology & Transformation Officer
Salary Package: €65,000 to €85,000

About Our Client

Our Client combines technical expertise with a commitment to dependable service, modern solutions and consistently high standards, helping businesses and communities maintain safer environments.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Technology & Transformation Officer will shape how technology supports the Client’s commercial ambitions, operational performance and future growth. This executive appointment requires a business-focused technology leader who can connect organisational priorities with digital systems, data, automation and innovation, delivering tangible improvements across the Company.

The successful candidate will oversee a streamlined internal technology function supported by specialist external partners. Rather than managing routine technical support, the role will concentrate on strategic direction, enterprise platforms, information governance, transformation delivery, cyber resilience and the creation of technology-enabled services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology and Transformation Direction: Formulate a multi-year plan that connects digital investment with business expansion, profitability, service quality, operational productivity and risk management.
  • Technology Architecture: Establish a unified technology environment, addressing overlapping applications, outdated platforms, unnecessary complexity and excessive reliance on individual suppliers.
  • Service Delivery Model: Determine which capabilities should remain under the Company’s control and which may be delivered through managed service providers, supported by clearly documented accountabilities, performance standards and escalation procedures.
  • ERP and CRM Leadership: Assume executive-level ownership of the Acumatica programme, together with related customer management and field service functionality, ensuring that implementation decisions reflect genuine business requirements.
  • Business Systems Integration: Bring together the platforms supporting finance, purchasing, stock, projects, sales, customer service and other essential functions into a connected and controlled operating environment.
  • Process Transformation: Review and improve working practices before introducing automation, ensuring that new technology removes inefficiency instead of transferring outdated processes into a different system.
  • Programme Governance: Direct system configuration, interfaces, information transfer, user testing, internal controls, employee adoption and the measurement of expected business gains.
  • Data and Business Intelligence: Develop dependable information standards, assign accountability for essential datasets and establish authoritative sources for management reporting.
  • Performance Visibility: Introduce predictive dashboards covering areas such as project margins, remaining costs, anticipated gross profit, work in progress, sales opportunities, workforce availability, recurring income, liquidity and operational exposure.
  • Reporting Improvement: Replace disconnected reports and labour-intensive spreadsheet activity with accessible, consistent and timely management information.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Automation: Identify appropriate applications for AI and automation throughout engineering, cost estimation, project delivery, servicing, sales, finance and administration.
  • Controlled Innovation: Introduce carefully governed trials with defined targets, safeguards and measurable operational, commercial or customer benefits.
  • Professional Oversight: Maintain suitable human review wherever technology may influence engineering standards, regulatory obligations or safety-critical decisions.
  • Engineering Systems: Partner with technical and operational leaders to strengthen the consistency, precision and efficiency of engineering work through platforms such as BIM, Revit, SprinkCAD and FireCAD, as well as automated checking and digital commissioning solutions.
  • Customer-Facing Technology: Explore digital services including remote system monitoring, condition-based maintenance, online customer platforms, connected safety equipment, electronic compliance documentation and subscription-based offerings.
  • Commercial Innovation: Help position technology as part of the Client’s market proposition, supporting stronger customer relationships and new sources of repeat income.
  • Cybersecurity and Continuity: Define appropriate controls for information security, user access, data management, disaster recovery, operational resilience and continuity planning.
  • Compliance Governance: Contribute to the Company’s ISO 27001 ambitions and ensure that technology practices support relevant statutory, contractual and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Technology Risk Management: Maintain executive awareness of significant vulnerabilities, service incidents, recovery readiness and dependencies that could disrupt the Business.
  • Supplier and Partner Oversight: Govern managed service providers, implementation partners, software vendors and specialist advisers through defined deliverables, costs, service expectations and performance measures.
  • Asset and Investment Protection: Safeguard the Client’s authority over its data, applications, technical documentation, system design and intellectual property, while regularly reviewing licences and overall technology expenditure.
  • Emerging Technology: Monitor relevant developments across safety systems, security technology, connected devices, artificial intelligence, computer vision, smart buildings and engineering automation.
  • Implementation and Adoption: Lead organisational change across office-based, engineering, servicing and field teams, ensuring that new tools are understood, accepted and used effectively.
  • Initial Transformation Priorities: During the first year, secure the handover of existing technology responsibilities, assess the current systems and cyber environment, establish governance for Acumatica, define the data framework and prioritise legacy applications and manual activities for replacement.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education: A relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, engineering, business transformation, data, or a comparable discipline would be advantageous. Equivalent executive-level expertise and a substantial record of delivery will also be considered.
  • Executive Experience: Significant senior leadership experience directing technology-led organisational change and working closely with chief executives, directors and operational leaders.
  • Transformation Delivery: A strong history of successfully implementing ERP and CRM platforms, connecting enterprise systems and achieving sustained adoption throughout a business.
  • Sector Exposure: Experience gained within engineering, construction, project delivery, field operations, building systems, security or safety-related services would be highly beneficial.
  • Technical Knowledge: Broad practical understanding of enterprise architecture, system integration, information management, analytics, AI, automation, cybersecurity and digital governance.
  • Commercial Awareness: Ability to evaluate technology in relation to profitability, productivity, customer value, operational risk and investment returns.
  • Data Capability: Strong understanding of data ownership, reporting architecture and the development of decision-support tools that provide early visibility of business performance.
  • Supplier Management: Demonstrated ability to direct managed service providers, software companies, implementation specialists and other external technology partners.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain sophisticated technology matters clearly and translate operational or commercial requirements into practical delivery plans.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Confidence and credibility when working with board members, senior executives, engineers, operational personnel and technical specialists.
  • Organisation: Capacity to manage a broad transformation portfolio, establish priorities and maintain control over budgets, milestones, risks and expected outcomes.
  • Leadership Approach: Comfortable taking responsibility for results delivered through a combination of internal teams and third-party specialists.
  • Self-Motivated: Proactive, commercially astute and committed to creating measurable business value through carefully selected technology initiatives.
  • Problem-Solving: Able to make complicated environments easier to understand, question inefficient practices constructively and introduce workable improvements.
  • Innovation Mindset: Interested in new technology while maintaining sound judgement regarding cost, security, continuity and implementation risk.
  • Decision-Making: Capable of balancing the need for progress with appropriate governance, professional oversight and operational stability.
