Our Client is a well-established Maltese business operating within the food manufacturing sector. Working alongside local producers, the Company sources carefully selected ingredients, maintains demanding production standards and supplies popular consumer products across the Maltese Islands.

Role Overview

Heroix is collaborating with our Client to recruit a Cold Stores Operator who will support the efficient handling, storage and dispatch of finished goods. Reporting to the Distribution and Cold Store Executive, the selected candidate will prepare customer orders, arrange stock and help maintain a safe, orderly and well-managed temperature-controlled environment.

This is a physically active, night-shift position involving manual handling, extended periods of standing and regular work in low-temperature conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Goods Receiving: Accept finished products transferred from the production area, checking that deliveries are complete and correctly handled.
• Product Inspection: Identify damaged goods, packaging concerns or stock discrepancies and promptly bring them to the attention of the relevant person.
• Order Preparation: Pick, assemble and verify customer orders carefully before products are released for dispatch.
• Stock Arrangement: Place products in the appropriate storage locations and help keep the cold store organised, accessible and tidy.
• Stock Rotation: Apply the First In, First Out method when arranging and selecting goods to support effective inventory control.
• Vehicle Loading: Transfer products safely onto delivery vehicles while protecting product quality and observing workplace safety requirements.
• Equipment Operation: Use forklifts and other handling machinery responsibly and efficiently when moving stock around the premises.
• Procedure Compliance: Carry out all activities according to the Company’s operating instructions, food-handling practices and safety measures.
• Team Coordination: Cooperate with colleagues across production, logistics and quality functions to support the smooth movement of goods.
• General Support: Undertake other reasonable operational duties assigned according to the needs of the cold store and wider Business.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

• Education: An MQF Level 3 qualification is required, together with a valid Food Handling Certificate.
• Experience: At least two years of relevant experience within a warehouse or temperature-controlled storage facility is expected. Previous exposure to food operations would be particularly useful.
• Language Skills: A good command and understanding of English is required to follow instructions, complete tasks accurately and communicate effectively at work. Knowledge of Maltese would be considered an asset.
• Communication Skills: Able to share information clearly, report product issues promptly and understand operational and safety instructions.
• Interpersonal Skills: A cooperative and dependable team member who can work productively with colleagues from different operational departments.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with FIFO stock rotation, basic computer use and the safe operation of forklifts or other materials-handling equipment.
• Attention to Detail: Capable of checking orders, quantities and product condition carefully to minimise mistakes and ensure accurate dispatch.
• Organisation: Able to arrange stock systematically, maintain an orderly working area and complete assigned duties within operational deadlines.
• Self-Motivated: Comfortable working independently, taking responsibility for assigned tasks and maintaining consistent standards throughout the shift.
• Problem-Solving: Able to recognise damaged goods, stock inconsistencies and operational concerns, taking appropriate action or referring matters to the relevant supervisor.
• Physical Capability: Willing and able to lift and move goods, remain standing for lengthy periods and carry out duties in a refrigerated environment.
• Transport Requirement: Candidates must have reliable personal transport, as public transport availability may be limited during the required working hours.
