About Our Client

Heroix is collaborating with a respected organisation operating within the safety and protection sector. Our Client delivers specialised solutions designed to safeguard people, property and working environments, supported by a strong commitment to dependable service, technical excellence and ongoing improvement.

Role Overview

The Company is seeking a commercially minded Commercial Mechanical Engineer to develop effective fire protection solutions and support the preparation of competitive bids. The successful candidate will assess project requirements, produce designs and costings, compile tender submissions and recommend suitable systems for applications involving sprinklers, gas-based suppression and fire-resistant compartmentation products. This position requires sound engineering judgement, strong client-facing abilities and a careful, solutions-led approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Development: Create practical mechanical fire protection proposals that satisfy project specifications while remaining commercially viable.
  • Enquiry Evaluation: Examine prospective clients’ requirements and determine the technical feasibility, scope and estimated cost of each opportunity.
  • Bid Strategy: Contribute to commercial approaches that strengthen the Company’s prospects of securing contracts.
  • Tender Analysis: Interpret contractual, financial and engineering requirements contained within tender documents, identifying obligations, risks and areas requiring further clarification.
  • Submission Preparation: Assemble accurate and comprehensive bid packages, ensuring that supporting information and responses are delivered within the required deadlines.
  • Design Optimisation: Explore alternative specifications and engineering methods that improve functionality, efficiency or overall project value.
  • Compliance Review: Verify that every element of a proposal reflects applicable legislation, recognised industry frameworks and client expectations.
  • Site Evaluation: Visit prospective project locations to establish installation conditions, confirm viability and highlight technical or operational concerns.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor relevant internal practices to help ensure consistently high standards across commercial and engineering activities.
  • Procedural Compliance: Follow the Business’s established operating procedures and applicable certification frameworks, including ISO and LPCB requirements.
  • Document Management: Maintain orderly and traceable project files, including technical records, correspondence and documented customer acceptance.
  • Professional Leadership: Promote responsibility, appropriate workplace conduct and consistent standards within the team, addressing performance or behavioural matters when necessary.
  • Client Relationships: Build confidence throughout the sales and bidding process by remaining responsive, adaptable and attentive to customer needs.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Communicate clearly with customers, vendors, colleagues and other project contributors to support informed and timely decisions.
  • Continuous Feedback: Share useful observations and recommendations that contribute to stronger service delivery, future opportunities and lasting commercial relationships.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake other reasonable responsibilities as the position and operational priorities develop.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable engineering qualification, is preferred.
  • Professional Recognition: Possession of a Maltese engineering warrant would be advantageous. Applicants actively progressing towards obtaining the warrant will also be considered.
  • Driving Licence: A current Maltese driving licence is required to carry out visits to client and project sites.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ experience within technical selling, solutions engineering or a closely related commercial engineering position is required.
  • Sector Knowledge: Previous exposure to fire protection, life-safety or security systems is expected, ideally involving suppression or compartmentation solutions.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Capable of explaining engineering concepts, specifications and proposed solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Confident in developing productive relationships with clients, suppliers and internal colleagues while contributing positively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commercial Awareness: Able to balance engineering requirements, customer expectations, pricing considerations and the wider objectives of the Business.
  • Technical Skills: Competent in reviewing specifications, preparing mechanical system designs, developing costed proposals and compiling detailed tender documentation.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with recognised fire protection requirements, quality systems and relevant certification standards is necessary.
  • Organisation: Able to coordinate several bids simultaneously, maintain accurate records and meet demanding submission dates without compromising quality.
  • Attention to Detail: Thorough when checking calculations, technical documentation, compliance requirements, approvals and commercial information.
  • Self-Motivated: Demonstrates initiative, ownership and the drive to move opportunities forward with limited supervision.
  • Problem-Solving: Applies analytical thinking and engineering knowledge to identify risks, resolve design challenges and propose workable alternatives.
  • Sales Ability: Comfortable identifying customer priorities, presenting persuasive solutions and helping convert enquiries into successful business.
  • Professional Conduct: Leads through example by showing integrity, reliability and accountability in dealings with colleagues and external stakeholders.
