About Our Client

Our Client is a forward-thinking multidisciplinary practice offering high-quality professional advice across several sectors, including legal services. The Company is committed to delivering excellent standards while supporting the learning and long-term development of its people.

Role Overview

Heroix is collaborating with our Client to recruit a Junior Associate to join its Fintech and Financial Services practice. The successful candidate will support clients navigating developing regulatory requirements concerning digital assets, payment services and electronic money, while gaining direct exposure to complex advisory and authorisation matters.

Working alongside an experienced legal professional, the selected individual will examine new regulatory questions, prepare clear written advice and help translate technical requirements into workable commercial solutions. Applications are welcomed from legal professionals as well as candidates with suitable experience in regulatory compliance, risk, policy or financial services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Analysis: Examine legislation, judicial decisions, official guidance and other authoritative materials concerning digital assets and regulated financial activities, applying sound judgement where formal direction remains unclear.
  • Written Advisory Work: Prepare well-structured internal memoranda, formal opinions and practical regulatory resources covering areas such as MiCA, PSD2, EMD2, payment services and electronic money.
  • Client Resources: Assist in developing user-friendly tools and guidance documents that make detailed regulatory obligations easier for clients to understand and apply.
  • Licensing Support: Contribute to licence and authorisation submissions by preparing documentation, gathering supporting information and assisting with communications involving supervisory authorities.
  • Digital Asset Assessment: Support the evaluation of crypto-assets and their potential regulatory treatment, including cases where classification requires detailed interpretation.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Follow relevant developments within the European Union and other applicable markets, summarising changes and assessing how they may affect clients’ activities.
  • Practice Development: Help strengthen the Business’s expertise and market presence within fintech and regulated financial services through knowledge-sharing and commercial development initiatives.
  • Team Collaboration: Work constructively with colleagues, share knowledge and contribute to a professional environment founded on cooperation and mutual support.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education: A degree in law, fintech, financial services regulation or another closely related discipline is required.
  • Experience: Previous exposure to fintech, regulated financial services or a related field would be beneficial, ideally gained over approximately two years. Candidates at an earlier stage of their careers may also be considered where they demonstrate clear potential and a genuine commitment to this specialisation.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese or another language would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written communication and drafting capabilities, with the ability to explain technical regulatory matters accurately and clearly.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A cooperative and approachable manner, together with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, clients and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Skills: Sound research abilities and careful attention to authoritative legal and regulatory sources. Familiarity with MiCA, EU financial services legislation, payment regulation or electronic money requirements would be advantageous.
  • Organisation: The ability to coordinate several assignments simultaneously, prioritise competing demands and produce accurate work within strict timeframes.
  • Self-Motivated: A proactive mindset, intellectual curiosity and a strong personal interest in fintech, crypto-assets and regulatory innovation.
  • Attention to Detail: A thorough and methodical approach to research, drafting and document preparation, ensuring that work is precise and reliable.
  • Problem-Solving: The confidence to assess unfamiliar regulatory questions, identify practical options and develop commercially appropriate recommendations, even where established guidance is incomplete.

What's on Offer

  • Compensation: An attractive remuneration package reflecting the successful candidate’s qualifications, knowledge and relevant experience.
  • Working Hours: A hybrid working arrangement offering flexibility between office-based and remote work.
  • Other Benefits: Health insurance, a pension plan and access to continuous professional training within a welcoming and progressive working environment.
