Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose common ailments and medical conditions, including upper respiratory tract infections.
  • Recommend and undertake appropriate treatments, interventions and procedures, including topical, oral, intravenous and intramuscular medication administration.
  • Provide clinical interventions including prescribing, counselling, psychological support, advice and patient education.
  • Refer patients for diagnostic, therapeutic and support services, prioritising internal referrals within the Saint James Hospital Group.
  • Use Group systems for booking diagnostic tests, referrals and other clinical services.
  • Collect blood, tissue and fluid samples and take swabs for laboratory analysis.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests, medical records, reports and examination findings to support diagnosis and treatment.
  • Explain procedures, test results and prescribed treatments, while addressing patients’ concerns.
  • Monitor and follow up patients’ conditions, reviewing and adjusting management plans as required.
  • Conduct medical assessments for insurance, work permit, residence and citizenship applications, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and accurate documentation.
  • Conduct evidence-based screening, risk assessments and early detection of illness, disease and disability.
  • Initiate and participate in health screening programmes organised by Saint James Hospital Group.
  • Work with public health providers on the prevention and control of communicable diseases and report to relevant authorities.
  • Provide ongoing care and support for patients with chronic and terminal conditions, linking with appropriate healthcare providers where required.
  • Promote health and wellbeing through health education, counselling and disease prevention initiatives.
  • Advise patients and community members on diet, physical activity, hygiene and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation and administration of health programmes and standards across Saint James hospitals, clinics and external organisations.
  • Support the introduction and delivery of new services, including workplace GP services and home visits.

Requirements:

  • Registered with the Malta Medical Council.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and effectively under pressure.
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining competence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Saint James Hospital Group healthcare team.
