Role Overview

Heroix is collaborating with an established organisation in the legal and professional services sector to recruit a Head of Accounting. Reporting at Board level, the successful candidate will assume responsibility for the Client Accounting function, leading its people, service delivery, operational development, financial results, and contribution to the wider growth of the Business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Departmental Leadership: Define the priorities of the Client Accounting function and guide its development in support of the Company’s commercial and organisational goals.
  • Accounting Oversight: Take responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of client financial reports, periodic accounts, statutory submissions, and other related deliverables.
  • Team Development: Manage the performance and progression of accounting personnel through regular guidance, constructive feedback, coaching, and formal performance reviews.
  • Operational Enhancement: Examine existing procedures and introduce practical improvements that strengthen productivity, reliability, accuracy, and the overall client experience.
  • Technology and Automation: Assess opportunities to reduce manual work and lead the introduction of suitable digital tools, accounting platforms, and automated processes.
  • Client and Commercial Growth: Support the expansion of the department by strengthening existing business relationships, identifying additional service opportunities, and contributing to new client acquisition.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain appropriate controls to ensure that departmental activities comply with financial reporting principles, anti-money laundering responsibilities, and relevant legal obligations.
  • Cross-Departmental Coordination: Work in partnership with colleagues across taxation, corporate administration, fiduciary services, and other specialist areas to provide clients with coordinated support.
  • Financial Management: Oversee departmental invoicing and outstanding payments while preparing meaningful performance information for presentation to the Board.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education: A completed ACCA qualification or another recognised professional accounting qualification at an equivalent level is required.
  • Experience: Candidates should have at least five years of senior-level or managerial experience within a client accounting function. Previous exposure to a law practice, corporate services provider, or gaming-related organisation would be beneficial.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the confidence to explain financial matters clearly to clients, colleagues, team members, and senior decision-makers.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A relationship-focused approach, together with the ability to earn trust, guide employees, and collaborate effectively across different professional disciplines.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced competence in accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications, supported by sound knowledge of Maltese income tax and VAT requirements.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated capability in managing accounting professionals, developing talent, setting expectations, and maintaining high standards across the department.
  • Organisation: The ability to coordinate competing assignments, manage demanding reporting cycles, and deliver accurate work within strict timeframes.
  • Attention to Detail: A thorough and methodical approach to financial information, with a strong commitment to precision and dependable service delivery.
  • Self-Motivated: A proactive and commercially aware professional who takes ownership, pursues improvements, and remains focused on achieving departmental objectives.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong judgement and analytical ability, with the capacity to address accounting, operational, personnel, and client-related challenges effectively.
