About This Job

The General Instructor will provide training, coaching, staff mentoring, monitoring and supervision while leading and managing all aspects of the training experience and simultaneously creating a collaborative and inclusive learning environment to foster student learning and development. 

The General Instructor is responsible for overseeing the operational and administrative aspects of training course delivery, ensuring all activities are conducted safely and align with the company’s Quality Management System. 

The role involves setting high standards of excellence in achieving training program goals, managing the safety and discipline of students, and maintaining the operational readiness of the training facilities. Flexibility in performing additional duties and assisting with client- specific training is essential to this role.

Key Responsibilities

1. Training Course Delivery & Operations:

  • Oversee all operational activities related to training course
  • Ensure full compliance with the company’s Quality Management
  • Assists the Training Management team to ensure that all planned or un-planned maintenance is conducted and documented in accordance with QMS policy and
  • Ensure the safe and effective execution of all training
  • Monitor and supervise students to ensure their safety, discipline, and well-being during training including the wearing of appropriate PPE at all times.

2. Programme Standards & Objectives:

  • Set and uphold high standards in achieving programme aims and
  • Support the delivery of safe, high-quality, and effective training
  • Engage in course planning, development, and maintenance of training site
  • Assist in the daily operation of the training facility to maintain an efficient, effective, and safe working environment.

  • Stay informed of risk assessments impacting practical training, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Proven experience in a training environment, preferably in a Fire and Rescue Service, or at a fire training establishment.
  • Qualifications: Relevant certifications in training and education, health & safety, or any specific qualifications aligned with the field of instruction.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of safety equipment and the ability to conduct thorough inspections and maintenance.
  • IT Competency: Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in delivering safety instructions and technical training.

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels, including trainees, colleagues, and management.

Risk Management:

Familiarity with health and safety regulations and risk assessments related to training environments.

Strong commitment to providing exceptional training that prioritizes safety and meets both internal and external client expectations.

Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and calmness under pressure in critical and high-stakes environments.

Attention to Detail:

Meticulous attention to detail in training documentation, equipment inspections, and safety protocols.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities, ensuring all safety measures are in place.

Analytical Thinking:

Strong analytical skills to interpret data such as course feedback and generate insights. Ability to develop and improve operational and training processes based on data analysis.

Team Collaboration:

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and across departments, ensuring cohesive and effective training delivery.
