
Junior QA/QC Analyst (Main Laboratory)

Overall Purpose of Position
To sample and perform chemical and bacteriological analytical tests in line with the sampling programmes being followed on various media, namely potable water, ground water, new water and waste water.
To ensure timely and accurate reporting of such analysis to the target audience.
To contribute to the overall objectives of the Corporation in line with the statement and mission of the Water Services Corporation.
Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- To perform analytical/technical duties both as regards routine chemical and bacteriological tests in accordance with the relevant Standard Operating Procedures, as well as others that may be assigned by senior laboratory staff.
- To use various equipment for the necessary analysis.
- To perform sampling as per the established Standard Operating Procedures and in line with the sampling programme as defined by the Laboratory’s senior management staff.
- To carry out assigned duties in the field and to carry out certain tests and measurements in the field as directed and according to the relevant Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
- To register samples including the recording of parameters and equipment.
- To prepare test reagents, media, standards, and other solutions as required and according to the relevant Standard Operating Procedures and update all relevant records and forms.
- To maintain all necessary records, forms, registers, and other laboratory documentation as deemed necessary by senior laboratory staff.
- To monitor stock levels of laboratory items, chemicals, and consumables.
- To undergo any kind of training related to his/her work either that organized by the Laboratory / WSC or by any other external institution.
- For the practice of Good Laboratory Practice at all times.
- For ensuring that all Laboratory Personnel abide by established Health and Safety criteria.
- For the taking due care and diligence in carrying out the duties and in using the entrusted equipment.
- For the exemplary behavior which includes abidance by the rules and regulations of the Laboratory and the WSC.
- To follow an approved WSC dress code (uniform). To perform other laboratory work which may be assigned by the senior staff and which might include driving a vehicle
- To ensure that lab analysis is carried out, in-line with interface agreements in place.
- To input, record, and analyze data using several software packages, including but not limited to LIMS, Excel, SAP and also out data analysis software.
- Ensure that the laboratory maintains and the accreditation and participate in internal and external proficiency testing, audits, and peer reviews;
- To work in a team, treating all WSC employees with respect both within the lab and other employees/clients/suppliers that the nature of the job interfaces with both in spoken and written communication.
- Carry out effectively any other duties and responsibilities and undertake other assignments as reasonably directed by the Management.
Working Conditions
- Expected to be in, and maintain, a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service;
- Expected to work flexible hours in order to meet accountabilities and attend to work after office hours, as may be required;
- Abide by rules and regulations issued by WSC;
- Consult with other sections as may be required;
- Expected to maintain oneself abreast with best practices relevant to the post and attend any training which may be provided;
- The nature of this position requires the employee to be physically present during working
- hours as per operational exigencies
Qualifications and Experience
By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must:
- Be in possession of a recognized MQF Level 4 related to the job description OR
- Be in possession of MQF Level 3 and one (1) year experience related to the job description OR
- Three (3) years experience related to the job description.
- Must be in a possession of an ECDL certificate
- Applicant must be in possession of a valid driving license B (manual).
- Candidates shall present a clean police conduct, not older than six (6) months from the date of application to the Board Members during the interview.

The appointment is subject to a trial/probationary period of six (6) months during which time Appointees (i) will retain their substantive appointments, and (ii) need invariably undergo and pass through a specialized certification course to be organized by the Corporation as per exigencies. Failure to get certified as herein mentioned will automatically render the incumbent as having failed the trial/probationary and they shall return to their substantive grade upon notice issued by the Corporation to that effect.
