1. Description of Role
The Linen Keeper is responsible for the safe receipt, storage, control, issue and collection of all linen, towels and related housekeeping supplies. The role ensures that clean linen is available when required, soiled linen is handled correctly, and stock is accurately recorded and protected from loss, damage or misuse.
2. Main Duties & Responsibilities
· Count, sort, fold and organise clean linen and towels by item, size and designated storage location.
· Prepare and issue linen to housekeeping teams according to daily occupancy, arrivals, departures, room changes and operational requirements.
· Collect, count and prepare soiled linen for dispatch, ensuring correct separation and safe handling.
· Maintain accurate daily records of linen received, issued, returned, rejected, missing and sent to laundry.
· Carry out regular stock counts and assist with monthly inventories, reconciliations and variance investigations.
· Maintain agreed par-stock levels and promptly report low stock, unusual usage, repeated shortages or anticipated operational needs.
· Keep linen rooms, storage areas, trolleys, shelving and work areas clean, dry, secure, organised and compliant with health and safety standards.
· Apply stock-rotation procedures and store clean linen separately from soiled, damaged or rejected items.
· Identify and segregate damaged, stained or unusable linen for repair, rewash, write-off or management review.
· Coordinate with the Housekeeping Manager, supervisors, reception and external laundry provider to ensure timely linen availability.
· Support busy turnaround periods by preparing linen packs, restocking housekeeping pantries and assisting with linen distribution across the property.
· Ensure linen-room access is controlled and that stock is issued only to authorised team members.
· Follow infection-control, manual-handling, fire-safety and workplace health and safety procedures.
· Carry out other reasonable housekeeping or stores-related duties assigned by management.
3. Skills and experience
· Previous experience in housekeeping, laundry, linen control, stores or a similar operational role is preferred.
· Strong attention to detail and confidence working with counts, stock sheets and basic records.
· Ability to organise work independently, prioritise urgent requirements and remain accurate during busy periods.
· Good communication and teamwork skills.
· Basic spoken and written English; knowledge of Maltese or another language is an advantage.
· Basic computer literacy and willingness to use spreadsheets or stock-control systems.
· Reliable, punctual, honest and comfortable working in a role involving responsibility for company stock.
