Overview
We are seeking a motivated microbiologist to join our laboratory team in both part-time and full-time capacities. The role involves routine and investigative laboratory work, quality assurance, and collaboration across departments to support microbiological testing, research, and compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Microbiological Testing & Analysis
- Perform routine microbiological assays (culture, enumeration, identification) on environmental, clinical, and product samples.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, PCR thermocyclers, biosafety cabinets).
- Prepare media, reagents, and sterile solutions; ensure correct sample handling and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Method Development & Validation
- Assist with development, optimization, and validation of microbiological methods and protocols.
- Evaluate emerging techniques (molecular assays, rapid microbiology methods) and support implementation.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Follow and enforce quality management systems, SOPs, GLP/GMP/ISO guidelines as applicable.
- Maintain accurate, timely laboratory records, logs, and test reports.
- Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and corrective/preventive action activities.
- Safety & Laboratory Maintenance
- Adhere to biosafety and chemical safety protocols; manage waste disposal and decontamination procedures.
- Monitor inventory, order consumables, and ensure equipment calibration and maintenance schedules are met.
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze experimental and test data, interpret results, and prepare concise technical reports.
- Communicate findings clearly to cross-functional teams and contribute to meetings and project updates.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet project timelines and quality targets.
- Propose and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reliability.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, or related field; MSc or higher preferred.
- Associate-level experience working in a microbiology laboratory (industry, clinical, environmental, or research setting).
- Strong practical experience with aseptic technique, culture-based methods, microbial identification, and basic molecular biology (PCR) is preferred.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality systems (SOPs, recordkeeping) and regulatory standards (GLP/GMP/ISO) relevant to microbiological testing.
- Competence with laboratory instrumentation and experience performing routine equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English (full professional proficiency).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an onsite laboratory environment.
- Commitment to laboratory safety and biosecurity practices.
