Risk Management Department – Principal Officer

Job title & role description:
The Bank is currently looking to recruit a Principal Officer, a supervisory role on a full-time basis (Monday to Friday – 08:00 to 17:00 hrs), with an indefinite contract at employment at the Bank’s main office – Risk Management Department, situated at Level 20, Portomaso Business Tower, St. Julians.
The role is within the Risk Management Department and will support the credit risk team in evaluating the creditworthiness of trade corporate clients, monitoring exposures, and ensuring compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements. The role also involves assisting in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks across the bank and supporting the implementation of the operational risk framework in line with regulatory expectations.
Main responsibilities:
- Assisting in the credit assessment of loan applications and credit facilities.Analysing financial statements, compliance reports, and industry data to assess risk.
- Supporting the preparation of credit risk reports for internal committees and regulators.
- Conducting country risk assessments/reports.
- Monitoring credit exposures and ensuring compliance with approved limits and risk appetite.
- Collaborating closely with Relationship Managers, Middle Office, and other relevant internal and external stakeholders across the network to ensure the timely collection, review, and maintenance of complete and accurate risk documentation, while supporting adherence to regulatory and internal governance requirements.
- Assisting in the execution of Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) across departments.
- Supporting the collection and analysis of operational risk incidents and loss data.
- Helping to maintain the operational risk register and other risk registers, ensuring timely reporting of events.
- Participating in root cause analysis and following up on remediation actions.
- Assisting in the preparation of operational risk dashboards and reports for senior management and regulators.
- Contributing to business continuity planning and operational resilience initiatives.
- Supporting internal training and awareness programs on operational risk.
Skills & qualifications required:
- A bachelor's degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, or a related field would be preferable, but is not a mandatory requirement;
- Previous banking experience or experience in a similar role will also be considered an asset;
- Analytical with attention to detail;
- The capability of working effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision;
- Good problem-solving skills;
- Good communication skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
- Strong Time Management and ability to meet deadlines;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
- Positive attitude vis-à-vis the work, challenges and non-routine tasks.
- Experience using software packages such as MS Office.
