Role Overview
The Senior Accountant - VAT Specialist will play a pivotal role in managing client accounting portfolios, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing expert VAT advice. The successful candidate will oversee daily bookkeeping activities, maintain accurate financial records, and support clients with VAT compliance and reporting obligations. Key Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight: Supervise and review daily bookkeeping activities to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal procedures.
- Client Relationship Management: Liaise with clients regularly to gather financial data, understand their operations, and provide proactive accounting and VAT support.
- Reporting and Compliance: Prepare and review management reports and annual accounts in line with accounting standards and company policies.
- Audit Coordination: Collaborate with auditors to ensure adherence to financial and regulatory requirements.
- VAT Management: Handle VAT registrations, submissions, and reporting obligations, ensuring full compliance with Maltese and EU legislation.
- Technical Expertise: Stay up to date with accounting standards, financial regulations, and VAT developments to provide accurate and timely guidance.
- Advisory and Support: Advise clients on complex VAT matters, including cross-border transactions, partial exemptions, and compliance obligations.
- Documentation and Applications: Assist clients in obtaining EXO numbers, managing documentation, and liaising with authorities to ensure smooth processing.
- Internal Support: Provide guidance to the internal team on complex VAT compliance issues and help resolve technical queries.
- Education: A recognised qualification in Accounting such as ACCA or equivalent.
- Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in accounting or VAT compliance, ideally within a professional services environment.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly.
- Interpersonal Skills: Client-focused with excellent relationship management and team collaboration abilities.
- Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of accounting principles, VAT legislation, and reporting standards. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel is essential.
- Organisation: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Self-Motivated: Proactive and dependable, with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical thinker capable of resolving technical and compliance issues efficiently.
