Role Overview

The ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Senior Banking Regulation Analyst will join a specialist advisory team responsible for helping the Business understand and apply complex supervisory obligations. The position involves analysing European and domestic rules, advising colleagues on their practical application, and supporting the continued accuracy and quality of prudential, financial, statistical, recovery and resolution submissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Interpretation: Examine relevant legislation, supervisory publications and reporting standards, including CRR III, CRD VI and BRRD, and translate their implications into practical guidance for the Business.
  • Internal Advisory Support: Assist colleagues across the organisation with complex regulatory questions and help determine the most appropriate approach under the applicable reporting framework.
  • Prudential and Financial Reporting Guidance: Advise on matters concerning capital adequacy, liquidity, financial information, statistical returns, recovery planning and resolution requirements.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Track forthcoming legislative and supervisory changes, keeping internal reference materials, interpretations and guidance documents accurate and current.
  • Gap and Impact Assessment: Evaluate new requirements against existing practices, identify areas requiring attention and communicate their operational consequences to the appropriate teams.
  • Research and Recommendations: Investigate developing supervisory expectations, market practices and sector trends, converting findings into clear recommendations for internal stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Engagement: Coordinate with supervisory bodies, professional advisers and relevant industry forums on matters affecting the Company.
  • Consultation Responses: Contribute to the preparation of the Organisation's position on regulatory or industry consultations and other formal requests for feedback.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with different departments and external specialists when preparing for legislative changes or completing regulatory initiatives.
  • Project Contribution: Participate in projects falling within the team’s remit by developing technical positions and advising on how new obligations should be embedded in day-to-day processes.
  • Implementation Assistance: Support responsible teams as they introduce revised reporting arrangements, controls, documentation and working practices.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Prepare educational material and deliver technical sessions that strengthen regulatory awareness and understanding throughout the organisation.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities reasonably assigned by management in line with the requirements of the position.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Education and Experience: Candidates should meet one of the following combinations:
    • At least four years of relevant professional experience, together with an MQF Level 5 qualification in financial law, banking and finance, risk management, accountancy or a comparable discipline;
    • At least five years of relevant professional experience without the above qualification; or
    • At least two years of relevant professional experience, together with an MQF Level 6 Bachelor’s degree in financial law, banking and finance, risk management, accountancy or a comparable discipline.
  • Preferred Profile: Candidates holding an MQF Level 6 Bachelor’s degree alongside at least two years of suitable experience may be prioritised during selection.
  • Minimum Academic Requirements: Applicants who do not hold an MQF Level 6 qualification or higher must have at least four Ordinary Level passes at Grade 5/C or above, one of which must be English Language.
  • Relevant Background: Previous work should have been gained within banking regulation, regulatory compliance, risk, supervisory reporting or another closely connected area.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: A sound understanding of banking legislation, particularly CRR III, would be advantageous. Familiarity with prudential obligations, recovery and resolution arrangements, financial reporting or statistical returns is also desirable.
  • Reporting Frameworks: Direct experience of COREP, FINREP or comparable regulatory reporting modules would be considered an asset.
  • Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Able to explain technically demanding regulatory concepts clearly and adapt information for colleagues with different levels of specialist knowledge.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A cooperative professional who builds effective relationships across departments and works constructively with advisers, authorities and industry representatives.
  • Technical Skills: Capable of evaluating legal and supervisory material, forming well-supported interpretations and applying regulatory principles to reporting and operational matters.
  • Organisation: Meticulous and structured, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records and complete assignments within demanding timeframes.
  • Self-Motivated: Takes initiative, accepts ownership and actively keeps abreast of developments affecting the position.
  • Problem-Solving: Comfortable assessing incomplete or uncertain information, exercising sound judgement and recommending practical courses of action.
  • Continuous Improvement: Committed to identifying more effective methods, strengthening established practices and supporting higher standards of regulatory delivery.
  • Adaptability: Able to remain composed under pressure and respond constructively when priorities, requirements or circumstances change.
