Role Overview
The Training Instructor – Fire & Safety will coordinate and deliver practical learning programmes while guiding participants throughout their development. This position combines instruction, coaching, learner oversight, facility coordination and administrative responsibilities, with particular attention to safe working practices and the Company’s internal quality requirements.
The successful candidate will help create a respectful and engaging learning setting, support colleagues with operational activities and contribute to programmes developed around individual customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction and Coaching: Conduct engaging learning sessions, provide practical guidance and support participants in building the knowledge and capabilities required by each programme.
- Learner Supervision: Oversee participants throughout practical activities, promote appropriate behaviour and confirm that prescribed protective clothing and equipment are used correctly.
- Course Coordination: Manage the practical arrangements associated with each programme, ensuring that sessions are properly organised, suitably resourced and delivered in line with approved procedures.
- Quality Requirements: Follow the Business’s quality framework and maintain accurate records relating to programme delivery, operational checks and supporting activities.
- Safety Oversight: Confirm that exercises are carried out under controlled conditions and that all applicable precautions are understood and followed by instructors and participants.
- Programme Development: Contribute to the preparation, review and refinement of learning content, practical exercises and supporting course materials.
- Facility Readiness: Help maintain training areas in a suitable condition, ensuring that venues, resources and equipment are prepared before activities commence.
- Equipment Checks: Inspect training apparatus and safety resources, report concerns promptly and support the coordination and recording of scheduled or urgent maintenance.
- Risk Controls: Remain familiar with the risk documentation applicable to practical exercises and individual locations, ensuring that identified precautions are applied consistently.
- Operational Support: Assist Training Management with the smooth running of the centre and contribute to an orderly, productive and secure workplace.
- Professional Standards: Represent the Company appropriately, follow its values and procedures, and use the corporate uniform and protective equipment supplied for the position.
- Customer-Specific Training: Support the delivery of programmes adapted to particular client needs while maintaining the required instructional and safety standards.
- Additional Assignments: Undertake other appropriate responsibilities within the individual’s competence and remain available for occasional instruction away from the main centre, including deployment where required.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Education: Relevant certification in teaching or vocational instruction, occupational health and safety, or a specialist discipline connected with the training being delivered is required.
- Experience: Previous involvement in a practical learning setting is essential. A background within emergency response, firefighting or a specialist fire-training facility would be particularly advantageous.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: The ability to explain technical content and critical safety information clearly, confidently and accurately to varied audiences is essential.
- Interpersonal Skills: A respectful and approachable manner is required when engaging with learners, colleagues, management representatives and external stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Sound familiarity with protective and instructional equipment is expected, together with the ability to complete detailed condition checks and support its upkeep.
- IT Competency: Confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required for course administration, documentation and presentation preparation.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: A practical understanding of workplace safety obligations, hazard controls and location-specific risk documentation is necessary.
- Organisation: The successful candidate must be able to balance course preparation, records, equipment checks, learner supervision and operational priorities with care and accuracy.
- Self-Motivated: A proactive mindset, willingness to assist beyond routine assignments and commitment to raising standards are important for this appointment.
- Problem-Solving: The role requires sound judgement, composure and the ability to determine sensible action when unexpected operational or safety-related matters arise.
- Analytical Skills: The ability to assess participant feedback and other programme information, draw useful conclusions and recommend improvements is expected.
- Attention to Detail: Careful management of records, resources, checks and safeguards is essential throughout all stages of programme delivery.
- Teamwork: The successful candidate must cooperate effectively with colleagues from different functions to provide a consistent and well-coordinated learning experience.
- Customer Focus: A strong commitment to meeting organisational and customer expectations while preserving instructional quality and participant welfare is required.
