Assistant Groupage Bond Operator

Role purpose

To assist with the daily operation of the groupage bond and warehouse, ensuring that cargo is received, recorded, stored and released accurately and efficiently. The role combines warehouse duties, documentation and coordination with the transport and customs teams.

Main responsibilities

• Assist with loading and unloading groupage trailers, checking cargo against manifests and delivery documentation.
• Record incoming and outgoing shipments accurately in the company’s systems.
• Check package quantities, markings and apparent condition, reporting shortages, damage or discrepancies promptly.
• Label and allocate cargo to the correct storage locations, keeping shipments identifiable and accessible.
• Maintain accurate stock and bonded cargo records, supporting stock checks and reconciliations.
• Assist with preparing and checking shipment documents, including manifests, packing lists, delivery notes and customs paperwork.
• Coordinate with the customs team to confirm release status before goods are handed over or dispatched.
• Prepare cleared consignments for collection or delivery, liaising with drivers and the transport team.
• Obtain and file signed collection and delivery documents.
• Respond to routine cargo status enquiries and escalate outstanding issues to the supervisor.
• Keep the warehouse organised and follow company procedures for safe handling, security and restricted access.
• Operate handling equipment where trained and authorised.

Requirements

• Good organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Basic computer skills and confidence entering and checking shipment information.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English; Maltese and Italian would be assets.
• A reliable, practical approach and the ability to work well within a busy team.
• Willingness to carry out both administrative and physical warehouse duties.
• Previous experience in freight forwarding, groupage, warehousing or logistics would be an advantage.
• Familiarity with bonded warehouse procedures and customs documentation would be an asset.
• Forklift training or certification would be an advantage.
