Job description
The National Statistics Office is looking for interested candidates to primarily work with a team of interviewers stationed at the Malta International Airport, collecting data through face-to-face interviews for the Tourstat survey, the main source of information on tourism data in the country.
Survey interviewers will use electronic means to collect the data and may also be required to carry out other data inputting work. Survey Interviewers must be logical, methodical and discreet in their dealings with interviewees.
This position is a full-time position with an indefinite contract. The successful applicant shall primarily be stationed at the Malta International Airport (departures lounge) and work on a 12-hourly shift basis (day-night-rest-off). However, at the discretion of the Management, interviewers may be required to work on different work-pattern basis.
Responsibilities
The duties of a Survey Interviewer I include:
- Carry out face-to-face interviews in-line with set methodologies;
- Enter collected data electronically into a computer or any other portable media device;
- Take counts of travelling passengers;
- Carry out other tasks as may be assigned by the Head of Unit
Requirements
- Ordinary Level passes in four (4) subjects. Passes should be at Grade A to C or t to 5. Preference will be given to passes in languages;
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English and any other official European language;
- Sound computer literacy skills and good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (preferably qualified with a European Computer Driving License - ECDL qualification);
- An aptitude for and skill in interviewing techniques and procedures;
- An ability to follow instructions as guided by team leaders;
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.

Salary
The position of Survey Interviewer I is based on an annual salary of €21,008 in addition to an annual shift allowance of €1144, a class allowance of €400 and public holiday and Sunday shift allowances during the year 2026. The renumeration excludes qualification allowances and any overtime pay, which is reimbursed separately on an ad-hoc basis.
