About This Job

Telematics Technician

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on hardware systems on board the fleet.
  • Repair hardware components from on-board fleet management systems.
  • Be fully knowledgeable about the installation schematic of IT information systems and telematics for each vehicle model in the fleet as well as the applicable installation guidelines and agreed policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical support for other digital signage systems operated by the company as required.
  • Perform installation of IT information systems and telematics on new buses added to the fleet.
  • Collaborate with engineering department to ensure systems are installed according to document safety and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering department to ensure they are aware of the installation schematic of IT information systems on board the fleet and to ensure the systems are operational before buses are put back into service.
  • Be aware of and follow agreed installation guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to address cross-functional technical issues. Coordinate with external vendors for support when required.

Requirements:

  • Certification or diploma in Information Technology.
  • Certifications related to automotive electronics, telematics, or vehicle networks would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working as a hardware technician or in a similar role would be considered an asset.
  • Attention to Detail – Ability to perform precise work, ensuring accuracy in installations, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Compliance – Understanding of industry regulations and standards to maintain system integrity and operational safety.
  • Problem Analysis – Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues efficiently.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Telematics Systems – Knowledge of GPS, GSM, cellular networks, and satellite communications used in vehicles for tracking, remote diagnostics, and data transmission.
  • Automotive Electronics – Familiarity with electronic components in vehicles, including sensors, actuators, and control units, along with their functionalities.
  • Firmware Updates & Maintenance – Experience in managing firmware updates and maintenance procedures for vehicle IT systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with regulations.
  • Certifications or diploma in Information Technology.
  • Certifications related to automotive electronics, telematics or vehicle networks would be considered an asset
