Motor Underwriting Manager

Our client in the insurance industry is looking for a Motor Underwriting Manager.  The role provides technical underwriting guidance and referral support, manages key stakeholder and broker relationships, and contributes to the achievement of business objectives through effective portfolio oversight, team leadership and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Motor Underwriting: Oversee daily operations, complex risks, technical standards and underwriting governance.
• Portfolio Management: Drive profitability, growth and retention through portfolio analysis, reporting and corrective action.
• Business Development: Build strong broker, intermediary and strategic partner relationships and support key accounts.
• Product & Process Improvement: Enhance products, guidelines, systems, processes, automation and operational efficiency.
• Claims & Data Collaboration: Work closely with Claims, Data and IT to improve performance, reporting and decision-making.
• Leadership: Lead, coach and develop the Motor Underwriting team, including performance and succession planning.
• Governance & Compliance: Ensure regulatory, policy, authority and risk appetite requirements are consistently met.
• Strategic Awareness: Monitor market and competitor developments and support wider strategic initiatives.
• Key Skills: Strong underwriting expertise, commercial awareness, analytics, leadership, communication, relationship management and continuous improvement mindset.

Requirements: 

• Minimum 15 years experience in Motor Insurance.
• ACII qualification preferred, or actively working toward achieving it within an agreed timeframe.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Minimum 3 years experience in a team supervisory role, preferably within the Motor UW dept.
• Fluent in Maltese and English language.
