Overview
Lead and manage tax compliance, reporting, and advisory activities for a growing organisation based in Marsa. Ensure accurate filing, optimise tax positions, and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and tax authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance & Filing: Prepare, review, and submit corporate tax returns, VAT returns, payroll taxes, and other statutory tax filings in accordance with Maltese tax laws and deadlines.
- Tax Reporting: Compile tax provisions and disclosures for statutory and management reporting; coordinate with finance team to ensure accurate tax accounting under IFRS.
- Advisory & Planning: Provide practical tax advice on transactions, restructurings, payroll, and cross-border activities to minimise tax risk and optimise liabilities.
- Audit & Dispute Management: Liaise with tax authorities and external advisors during audits and enquiries; prepare responses, supporting documentation, and negotiate settlements where appropriate.
- Process Improvement: Develop and implement efficient tax processes, controls, and templates to streamline compliance and reduce risk.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with finance, payroll, legal, and operations teams to ensure tax implications are considered in business decisions.
- Research & Compliance Monitoring: Keep up-to-date with changes in Maltese and international tax legislation and assess impact on the business; implement necessary policy updates.
- Record Keeping: Maintain organised tax records, supporting documentation, and internal tax files for audit readiness.
- Team Support: Mentor junior finance staff on tax matters and coordinate with external advisors when required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field; ACA/ACCA/CPA or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on tax experience, ideally within Malta or with Maltese tax exposure; experience in corporate tax, VAT, and payroll taxes essential.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Maltese tax legislation, VAT rules, corporate tax compliance, and tax accounting under IFRS.
- Analytical Ability: Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- IT Skills: Proficient with MS Excel and accounting/tax systems; experience with ERP systems advantageous.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal English; ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
- Organisational Skills: Strong time management, ability to prioritise competing deadlines, and work accurately under pressure.
- Ethics & Compliance: High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgement.
- Interpersonal: Team-player with stakeholder management skills and ability to work onsite in Marsa.
